Optimized fueling stops can be saved along a route and emailed, as well as sent to Samsara. This feature does require an EFS subscription, as fueling locations and pricing are periodically fetched from EFS. Contact EKA Admin to enable the fuel price optimization feature.
Configurations
Before adding optimized fueling routes, the feature will need to be enabled on the driver level.
At the truck level, the miles per gallon as well as the fuel tank capacity will be used. If these are not configured, there are defaults available that can be set in Carrier Admin → Configurations → Company.
Add Optimized Fuel Plan
To add an optimized fueling route, go to Carrier Operations → Load Management → Dispatch.
To create an optimized fueling route, open an asset assignment by clicking on the icon.
On the load, select the icon and the Fuel Price Optimizer screen will open.
Enter the starting fuel, and optionally, the ending fuel. If fetching fueling levels from Samsara is enabled, the starting fuel will be automatically filled with that level and display a tooltip stating when the fueling level was reported. To refresh, click the icon, which is clickable at a minumum of every 15 minutes.
Click the Optimize button to continue.
The optimized fueling stops will display on the map and in the Fueling Stops section. The information displayed includes the full price, the amount of fuel to purchase, and the gallons of fuel at delivery. Within each stop, there is information about the price per gallon, how many gallons to purchase, the cost, the fuel level at arrival, and the mile marker.
Click the Save button to save the fuel route.
Once the optimized fueling plan is saved, the icon will turn green
.
Edit Fuel Stops
If enabled, editing the gallons to purchase for each stop is available.
Click the icon next to the stop name to open the fuel stop for edit.
When entering an updated gallons to purchase, the estimated cost will adjust accordingly. This may also trigger validations in this or other fuel stops if the maximum tank capacity is exceeded, or reaching the destination is impossible. Click the icon to save the edit, then click the Update button to save the changes to the optimized fuel plan.
Send Optimized Fuel Plan
The option to send the optimized fuel plan will display after the route has been saved or modified.
Click the Send button to send it as an email. This optimized fueling plan will also be automatically sent to the driver when the trip details are sent.
Sync Fuel Stops with Samsara
Fuel stops can also be synced with Samsara. If an optimized fueling plan is saved to a load prior to sending the trip details to Samsara, the fuel stops will be transmitted when the trip details are sent.
If the optimized fueling plan is added or changed after a load is dispatched to Samsara, there is a manual sync option available in the Fuel Price Optimizer. The Samsara status is listed under the Fueling Stops.
Click the Send button to continue.
From this screen, the fuel stops can be synced to Samsara. The Samsara status indicator will update with a icon, meaning that the fuel stops are synced.
If the optimized fueling plan is changed, the fuel stops will need to be manually synced with Samsara again.
Fueling Locations
For users with administrative access, the fueling locations are listed in Carrier Operations → Data Management → Fueling Locations.
To set a location as a No-Go location, click the icon, select the checkbox in the No-Go column and click the
icon. This will ensure the optimizer never selects this location in an optimized fueling plan. This table also provides information on the status of the pricing in terms of how recent it is. If a fueling location has pricing that is too old, it won’t be chosen during optimization.
