Go to Carrier Operations → Load Management → Loads → Dispatch.
Deadhead loads can be created from two different sections and can be used for two different purposes:
- Create a Deadhead load from the Asset Assignment’s last location to the Pickup location of their next assigned load.
- Create a Deadhead load from the last revenue load’s destination to the origin of the selected load.
In both cases, after a deadhead load is created, it will automatically be assigned to the same asset assignment it was created from and will appear in that asset assignment’s planned loads. If the deadhead load is linked to a load, then both loads will be dispatched together unless the main load had been dispatched prior to creating the linked load. Click the button to dispatch the load(s).
When the loads are dispatched, they will move to the Active Loads tab. The deadhead load will need to be updated in Active Loads and marked as Delivered just like any other load.
Creating a Deadhead load from the Asset Assignment’s last location:
Click the button to create a deadhead load from the Asset Assignment’s last location.
A New Load Entry screen will open with the following details entered:
- Job Type = Empty (the Driver in the Asset Assignment will need to have rates set up for this job type)
- Pickup Location = Asset Assignment’s last location; the pickup date will populate with the last location’s appointment date/time. The trailer will populate with the trailer assigned to the last revenue load
- Delivery Location = Asset Assignment’s next pickup location; the delivery date will populate with the next load’s pickup appointment date/time
- Load Service Details = Service type of next load
- Carrier Miles = Calculates the miles between the two locations
If there is a load assigned to the asset assignment, by default, the deadhead load will be linked to the current planned load. This can be disabled using the toggle at the top of the form. Click Save to create the deadhead load. If linked, the loads will be grouped together in the planned loads view.
Creating a Deadhead load from the last revenue load:
Click the button on an assigned load to create a deadhead load from the destination of the last revenue load to the origin of the selected load.
A New Load Entry screen will open with the following details entered:
- Job Type = Empty (the Driver in the Asset Assignment will need to have rates set up for this job type)
- Pickup Location = Last revenue load’s destination location; the pickup date will populate with the delivery appointment date of the last revenue load. The trailer will populate with the trailer assigned to the last revenue load, or the default trailer if the previous load has no trailer assigned
- Delivery Location = The selected load’s origin location; the delivery date will populate with the origin appointment date of the selected load
- Load Service Details = Service type of selected load
- Carrier Miles = Calculates the miles between the two locations
By default, the deadhead load will be linked to the selected load. This can be disabled using the toggle at the top of the form. Click Save to create the deadhead load. If linked, the loads will be grouped together in the planned loads view.
The new deadhead load will also be automatically assigned the trailer that was assigned to the previous revenue load. This trailer can be changed or removed at any time before the load is delivered.
