To set or update customer/shipper fuel surcharge calculation method, go to Administration → Customers/Shippers or to Operations → Customers/Shippers (this requires special user rights set by an Administrator).
For Administration, from the Active Customers/Shippers tab, locate the appropriate Customer/Shipper. Click on the name of the customer/shipper to edit.
For Operations, the default view is Active customers/shipper. Click on the icon at the end of the row.
The shipper profile will be displayed.
Navigate to the Payments tab.
In the Fuel Surcharge Calculation section, click Edit to open the fields for entry.
Click the Save button to save any changes.
Use Broker Settings
Utilizing the Use Broker Settings checkbox will set the fuel surcharge calculation to the fuel surcharge settings in Configurations. The calculation type will be cents per mile. Refer to the section below for more information on cents per mile. For information on how to view/set the Carrier Fuel Surcharge settings, refer to this article.
Cents Per Mile
To set the fuel surcharge calculation method to cents per mile, unselect the Use Broker Settings checkbox if it is enabled. If another option is selected, change the Fuel Surcharge Type dropdown to Cents Per Mile. Required fields are marked with .
When creating a load and setting the shipper price to variable or flat rate, the fuel surcharge will be automatically calculated based on these settings.
To view how rate per mile is calculated, hover over the icon next to Rate Per Mile.

Percentage of Rate
To set the fuel surcharge calculation method to percentage of rate, unselect the Use Broker Settings checkbox if it is enabled. If another option is selected, change the Fuel Surcharge Type dropdown to Percentage of Rate. Required fields are marked with .
When creating a load and setting the shipper price to variable or flat rate, the fuel surcharge will be automatically calculated based on these settings. Using percentage of rate will calculate the fuel surcharge using the entered percentage and the shipper line haul of the load.
The percentage used can also be edited from this view. Entering in a different percentage will automatically update the calculated fuel surcharge.
To edit the fuel surcharge in delivered loads, on the Customer/Shipper Invoicing side, click on the next to the load. Click the Adjust Fuel Surcharge button.
Both the Percentage of Rate and Fuel Surcharge Total will be editable. Updating one will update the other automatically.
Click the Save button to save the changes. Once the changes are saved, the new percentage will be visible next to the updated fuel surcharge amount.
Manual
To set the fuel surcharge calculation method to manual, unselect the Use Broker Settings checkbox if it is enabled. If another option is selected, change the Fuel Surcharge Type dropdown to Manual.
When creating a load and setting the shipper price to variable or flat rate, the fuel surcharge will have to be either manually entered, or left as $0.
If the fuel surcharge is left as $0, a warning message will show on the confirmation screen. This warning message also shows if no fuel surcharge method is set up for the customer/shipper.

Manual Cents Per Mile
To set the fuel surcharge calculation method to manual cents per mile, unselect the Use Broker Settings checkbox if it is enabled. If another option is selected, change the Fuel Surcharge Type dropdown to Manual Cents Per Mile. Required fields are marked with .
When creating a load and setting the shipper price to variable or flat rate, the fuel surcharge will be automatically calculated based on these settings. Using manual cents per mile will calculate the fuel surcharge using the entered rate per mile and the mileage of the load.

Implied Fuel Surcharge
When the load is all in, implied fuel surcharge will be calculated, but not using the settings listed above. Implied fuel surcharge is not added on to the price of the load, but is used in tandem with effective line haul to equal the total shipper negotiated price. To view the implied fuel surcharge for a load, in the price breakdown modal, click the icon next to Price Analytics. Implied fuel surcharge cannot be edited.
